3 things not-to-miss in Florence this October
1 – Festival dei Popoli. Florence has already seen 11 festival dei Popoli’s during its whole lifespan, and you can see this music festival of African and Ethnic music in November this year. The festival dei Popoli this time will take place at the F.L.O.G. music venue, well known for hosting nights all about the music with zero pretence. There will be separate concerts featuring the bands playing at the festival dei Popoli during several dates in October (1, 8, 15, 17, 28, 29, 30). Although the best opportunity to get your whole dose of these unique music genres will be at the Festival dei Popoli on November 11.
2 – Feast of Sant Reparata Celebrate the date of the first cathedral in Florence. You can try your best to join in (if you’re lucky enough to be picked by one of the local footballers) or just be a spectator of a race by a procession of the Florentine Republic. On the 8th of October, the processions begins at the Piazza di Parte Guelfa and finishes at the Duomo.
3 – Opera October has a huge schedule for different classical operas that you can see in Florence. Right by the Duomo which is located in the middle of town, a surprising load of performances are narrated in English.
