The Non-Touristic guide: 3 Hot Springs in Tuscany
Fosso Bianco, Tuscany
Our first pick of our recommended hot springs in Tuscany is perfect for colder weather bathing. The Fosso Bianco is an area of natural pools which can be found in the village of Bagni San Filippo, Val d’Orcia of Tuscany. It’s waterfalls and surrounding natural landscape ensure an incredibly relaxing environment. As you follow the Fosso Bianco around to the centre of the woods, you’ll be sure to find yourself enjoying water temperatures of up to 48 degrees Celsius.
Located in the medieval village of Saturnia, these pools go back a long time in history as of course they were originally used by the Romans. Malaria meant that these pools were vacated until the 1800’s, although now are well-known to even be curative to several ailments. The area which goes from Mount Amiata and Maremma is now incredibly popular for good reason.
The hot springs in Petriolo are the closest springs to Florence in our top-three list. To be found in central Tuscany, Upper Maremma along the Umbrone Valley. These hot springs showcases a magnificent mixture of greenery and ancient ruins. As with most things in-and-around Florence, these springs are too surrounded by history, used also by the Romans, and the Etruscans.
